Purity/Content Determination High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) Using a reversed-phase C18 chromatographic column, with methanol-water or acetonitrile-water as the mobile phase, and a UV detector (typically at 280 nm or 347 nm wavelength) to detect the vanillin peak area. The content is calculated using external standard or internal standard methods, offering high sensitivity, accuracy, and good repeatability.
Melting Point Determination Capillary Melting Point Method Dry sample is placed into a melting point capillary tube and heated gradually in a melting point apparatus. The initial and final melting temperatures are recorded. The standard melting point of vanillin is approximately 81–83 °C, used to assess its purity and crystalline state.
Appearance and Color Visual Colorimetric Method Under specified lighting conditions, the sample is compared with a standard color solution or against a white background to observe its color (usually white to slightly yellow crystalline powder), evaluating the presence of obvious impurities or degradation.

Related Substances (Impurities) Gradient Elution HPLC Method A gradient elution program is used to separate the vanillin main peak from possible by-products (such as ethyl vanillin, vanillic acid, guaiacol, etc.).
